Sainsbury-Zandren Memorial Scholarship

Sainsbury – Zandren Memorial Scholarship – $1500 Awarded each year to a female secondary student attending a government school or an alternative Yr. 12 program who has overcome adversity (i.e. single parent, financial hardship and medical issues) to complete her VCE, and who has gained a place at a tertiary educational facility.

Ann-Hilda Sainsbury was a Geelong woman who worked in the area of Women’s education and was a winner of the Zonta Club of Geelong’s Outstanding Achievement Award.

Marianne Zandren was a founding member of the Zonta Club of Geelong who passed away in 2005.

The scholarship, in their memory, is awarded to a female student, graduating from a local secondary school, who is considered to be in need of financial assistance, and undertaking her first year of tertiary education in the following year.

During the year the student needs to have shown commitment to her studies in the face of adversity and hardship, and that they will benefit directly from the funds.

The student is selected by the Principal, with the assistance of the Welfare Officer, Year 12-Coordinator and/or the VCE co-coordinator as well as any other appropriate person.
